Increased Inmate Capacity
Inmate Population
The Guthrie County jail currently has 10 beds. Segregation requirements such as gender, juvenile, medical/mental health issues, misdemeanor/felony, etc. also contribute to maximum capacity meaning the jail could have only 5 inmates but considered 100% full due to segregation rules. Overflow inmates are transferred to another county at a daily rate.

Impact of Inmate Overcrowding
We have experienced overcrowding issues for several years resulting in:
Transporting inmates to out-of-county facilities (staff/vehicles)
Housing inmates at out-of-county facilities
Early release of inmates and/or outstanding arrest warrants
Additional consideration in charges/sentencing
Intensive staffing requirements with current facility
Increased safety risk for public, staff, and inmates
